Il programma nel dettaglio

Done exploring the ancient, crumbling temples of Chiang Mai? Why not take a trip to her sister city of Chiang Rai? If you’re expecting more of the same, you’re in for a surprise! The arty temples of Chiang Rai are quite unlike others in Thailand and, dare we say it, the world. With just a day to spare, we’ll see the highlights and return to Chiang Mai by evening.

Mae Khachan hot springs: En route between Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, we’ll make a relaxing pitstop at one of Northern Thailand’s thermal springs. Watch as locals boil eggs over the vents and give yourself a pedi in the hot pools. Who said you need to splash out for fancy salon treatments?

The White Temple: One of Thailand’s most bizarre and impressive sights is Wat Rong Khun. It may look like a temple, but it’s actually a modern art installation completed in 1997. Wander past the white spires and peaceful pools to enter the temple and you’ll find minion-related artwork inside... and even an ode to Michael Jackson! Yup, it’s weird, wonderful and well worth a visit.

Blue Temple Chiang Rai: Next, we’ll journey to an equally impressive and even newer Chiang Rai blue temple translating as ‘dancing tiger’. While this temple was completed in 2008, the locals will tell you ancient legends about wild tigers who lived on this land several centuries ago. This bright blue and gold temple is visually stunning and home to an enormous seated Buddha.

The Black House: If the White and Blue Temples weren’t impressive enough, we’ll complete the colour palette by swinging by the Black House before we get home. This quirky gallery and museum meant to represent hell is packed with creepy artefacts like animal bones. Do you dare enter?!
