Il programma nel dettaglio
In the 13th century, the inhabitants of the Venetian islands started to develop the glassmaking industry, including the lampworking technique to shape glass beads with mesmerizing colors and intricate designs.
These beautiful beads were then used as a form of currency and sold overseas as luxury items. Over time, the Venetian glass beads also became a status symbol and a sign of prestige.
This tradition, which has been passed on for thousands of years, is still alive in today’s Venice.
You will be taken to an artisan workshop, where glass comes to life through the hands of a skilled Venetian artist. Using a flame that can recall an oil lamp of the past, she will transform this material into unique pieces of jewelry, right in front of you.
Glass beads will be lampworked into wonderful necklaces and earrings, featuring sophisticated color palettes in a variety of shapes, which shows how this craftsmanship has been refined over time, while using the same old materials. The lampworking technique can therefore be defined as a sort of common thread through the stages of Venetian civilization, which has developed over time, without forgetting its roots.
Under the supervision of an artisan master, you will forge your first bead, which will be given to you or delivered to your home at the end of the workshop. A glass master will also illustrate the story of glass beads since its inception.
