Palace of Knossos (ticket; €16 per person, payable on arrival and subject to change), once a political, administrative, commercial and religious centre created by the Minoan kings, today the largest archaeological site on the island, birthplace of Minoan art and culture with more than 4000 years of history. the legend of the Minotaur and the recent excavations that prove that Knossos was the origin of the first great European civilisation.
Next, visit the
Archaeological Museum of Heraklion (ticket not included; €10 per person, payable on arrival and subject to change), one of the most important museums in Europe, displaying five millennia of Cretan history, including the unique exhibition of Minoan culture.
Finish the day in the town of
