Il programma nel dettaglio
There are 5 important palaces that you must see whilst in Seoul Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Changkyeong-gung, Gyeongungung (Deoksu) and Gyeongheegung.
When you hear the word "Palace" the first thought that comes to mind is the official residence of kings and royal families. Find out for yourself the true definition of the word as you visit the palaces where once lived kings and their families lived with 2000 under their care. These days only parts of the palaces remain, but the remains are an essential part to understand the way of life of its former inhabitants. The palaces were like giant conference facilities where it was debated the best way to govern the country, similar to a huge company that ruled whole nation.
After World War II, the Korean empire fell, and the Korean imperial family became ordinary people. All the palaces belong to the Republic of Korea, and the figure of the king has disappeared from Korean society, although for many, kings are an essential part of the history of the country.
The palaces played two important functions in society: "kweol" is the place where governors, ministers, academics and kings met to discuss and make decisions. The "Koong" was located in the centre of the palace and is where the king and the royal family were staying.
Explore the palaces to the fullest and discover how each room and location are connected to the function they performed, whether it was for politics, accommodation or leisure.
