Changdeokgung was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997. The UNESCO committee stated the place was an ""outstanding example of Far Eastern palace architecture and garden design"" being exceptional because the buildings are ""integrated into and harmonized with the natural setting"" and adapted ""to the topography and retaining indigenous tree cover.



And there is Jongmyo next by Changdeokgung is a shrine that honored the kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty. There are two royal memorial halls, Jeongjeon and Yeongnyeongjeon in Jongmyo. After frequent building extension to accommodate the spirit chambers of successive kings and queens, Jeongjeon, the main hall, attained its present scale with 19 spirit chambers housing 49 spirit tablets while Yeongnyeongjeon or the Hall of Eternal Peace contains 16 spirit chambers housing 34 spirit tablets.
