This stunning national park, comprises of 94 lakes and hundreds of hills, has captured the hearts and minds of generations of poets and writers such as William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. This fully guided tour departs from London and returns within the same day, and is the ultimate escape from the hustle and bustle of the capital.

Arrive at the hamlet of Oxenholme before criss-crossing narrow country lanes to admire the spectacular Windermere, England’s largest lake. Inhale the fresh air and take in the awe-inspiring landscape. There are plenty of photo opportunities on the shores of Esthwaite Water, where Potter penned her Peter the Rabbit children’s stories and which inspired a number of Wordsworth’s poems.

Continue to Hill Top Farm, Potter’s home, which she bequeathed to the nation. Visit this quaint homestead and wander the gardens (the house closes on Fridays but the grounds remain open). The nearby picturesque village of Hawkshead, which is dominated by a historic hillside church, is the next stop. Cross the Yew Tree Valley, famed for its herds of roe deer, before reaching Coniston Water. This scenic lake served as the inspiration for the children’s novel, Swallows and Amazons.

Enjoy a photo stop at Yew Tree Farm, which was the setting for the film, Miss Potter. Refuel before returning to the Big Smoke by taking a delicious cream tea at the Potter’s former home, Lindeth Howe, now a hotel.
