Skip the queues, avoid the crowds and behold the spectacle that is the Colosseum by night. As the sun sets over Rome, and many have finished their sightseeing for the day, this is when we begin our intimate tour of Ancient Rome and the Colosseum. Savour every moment inside one of the most imposing and must see ancient structures in Rome.
As day gives way to night we see the Colosseum in a new light, as an ancient structure filled with more shadows than shuffling feet, where the shady history of this spectacular arena can truly be appreciated. Our tour starts with Trajan’s Column, moving past Piazza Venezia and up Michelangelo’s staircase to reach the Campidoglio. We find a lesser known vantage point over the Roman Forum before heading through the heart of Ancient Rome towards the might Colosseum.
Once inside, the Colosseum will be virtually empty, and you’ll experience it at is eeriest as your guide regales you with the history and stories that make this structure come alive. The highlight of the tour is when we head underground treading the tunnels that gladiators and beasts walked before being hoisted onto the arena floor via trap doors. Few visitors have the opportunity to visit the Colosseum underground, and fewer still see it at night, making this peaceful, spooky visit even more exceptional.

Others: Maximum 25 people. Blackout date: 1st May. This service ends at the Colosseum around 9.30pm or 11.15pm depending on the starting time. It is the responsibility of all visitors to be at the meeting point 15 minutes before departure. Guests arriving after departure cannot be accommodated & missed tours or tickets cannot be refunded. Our City Wonders coordinators will be wearing blue City Wonders polo shirts or jackets to be easily recognizable at the meeting point. On this tour, some of the venues or parts of the venue may be subject to last-minute, unpredictable closures. When this occurs, we are happy to offer customers an extended tour in keeping with the advertised total length of the tour.
