For almost 150 years, Johann Strauss’s “Blue Danube Waltz” has been the unofficial national anthem of Austria and remains one of the most famous pieces of music ever composed. This tour gives you the opportunity to combine Strauss’s music with the Danube River itself as you experience the majestic Danube first-hand on a memorable river cruise. Then you will be treated to a delicious dinner and concert at the spectacular Shonbrunn Palace, which includes masterpieces by Johann Strauss. This tour is almost certainly the best way to soak up all aspects of Austrian culture in one evening!
Cruise down the beautiful blue Danube and take in some of Vienna’s most famous landmarks. Sail past the Danube Tower, Millenium Tower, Ringturm and much more. Admire the Urania Observatory that was destroyed and rebuilt after the Second World War and learn all about the city’s imperial history as the hub of the once powerful Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Then head to the magnificent Schonbrunn Palace, the favoured summer residence of Habsburg rulers. Here you will enjoy a delicious candlelit three course meal in the palace’s old kitchen which has been converted into a delightful restaurant. After dinner , make your way to the adjacent Palace Orangery, which was originally intended to store fruit but has now been transformed into one of Vienna’s most charming concert halls. Admire the orchestra, singers and dancers as you are entertained by a marvelous performance that will of course include Strauss’s most famous composition.
Meeting/pick-up point: We will deposit all documents (vouchers for the river cruise and for the dinner, concert tickets and public transportation tickets) at the front desk of your hotel.
Duration: Eight and-a-half hours approx.
Start/opening time: Grand Danube River Cruise starting at Schwedenplatz at 2pm. and finish at 5.20pm.
Dinner at Café-Restaurant Residenz at 6.30pm.
Schoenbrunn Palace Orangery doors open at 8pm. Concert starts at 8.30pm and finishes at 22.15pm approx.
Palace visit: During the winter months, we recommend that individual guests start the audioguide Palace tour no later than 4pm. During the summer, please start your tour no later than 5.00pm.
