Step back in time and behind the Iron Curtain to the tense days of the 60s, 70s and 80s and enter the unexpected retro side of this once communist city. On this tour you will discover the meaning of Goulash Communism and take a ride in an iconic Trabant car.
Begin your day with a walking tour through the retro hotspots of Budapest. Enjoy a coffee at a “presszo”, one of the original coffee houses that survived the march of time before setting off among the glitz of the neon signs, red stars and many other symbols from the 70s and 80s. Browse the vintage shops before passing through Budapest’s oldest "modern" undercrossing, which takes you to the shop of a former communist sneaker brand.
After our walking adventure, it’s time to hop into a Trabant car. You can choose from two destinations. On the one hand, if your interests lay in communist history, explore the Park of Statues, where you can drive round this outdoor museum filled with monumental statues of Lenin, Marx or Engels. On the other hand, if you prefer shopping and hunting for hidden treasures, you may prefer a visit to the Esceri Flea Market. Famed for being one of the biggest in Europe, this shopper’s paradise is where you find everything from modern items to old soviet relics and precious antiques.
But if it’s the old Trabants that are your passion, you may prefer to opt for the alternative programme of driving on a closed circuit.
