Depart from your hotel in Chiang Rai to the Chiang Rai boat pier. We start by taking a long tail boat for approximately an hour over the Maekok River to Baan Ruam Mitra, a traditional Karen hill tribe. Here we will explore the village from the back of an elephant! We board a long tail boat for our return trip to Chiang Rai town to be driven by trishaw to visit the “Wat Phra Kaew” temple where in 1334, people uncovered the Emerald Buddha image (now located at the Wat Phra Kaew temple complex within the Grand Palace compounds). Time for shopping along the way.
