Wat Phra Kaew is a third-common-class royal temple situated in the area of 10,640 square metres on Trairat road, Wiang sub-district, Muang Chiang Rai in Chiang Rai City, Thailand. The King of Thailand upgraded the temple to the royal temple on May 31, 1978. The temple gains historical importance as the place where the Emerald Buddha was found. It is also one of the main centres of Buddhist education and the Sangha's administration in northern Thailand.
Wat Pra Singha : One of Chiang Rai’s oldest temples, the Wat Phra Singh was built in 1385, a little over a century after the city of Chiang Rai was founded by King Mengrai in 1262.
The main structures of the Lanna style temple are the ubosot, the viharn, a chapel containing a footprint of the Buddha and the Kuti or monks living quarters.
King Meng Rai Monament : Mangrai (1238–1311), also known as Mengrai was the 25th king of Ngoenyang and the first king of Lanna . This monument pays tribute to King Meng Rai who founded the city of Chiang Rai in 1262. He brought together several small states to form a large nation presently known as "Lanna". Chiang Mai was Its capital city. The statue of King Meng Rai here is highly venerated by locals.
