Program details
Ask any real Londoner and they’ll tell you: Sunday is Market Day. Whether you’re a foodie, someone who loves rummaging for vintage clothes or just fancy some people watching, the East End is the place to be.
Join us as we weave through the stalls and history of three of our most famous markets. You’ll hear the stories, learn about the origins and have the chance to load yourself down with great food, unique mementos and even a beer if you fancy it.
We'll take you to Middlesex Street Market (Petticoat Lane Market) and Spitalfields Market, where you'll be wowed by the variety of stalls and characters. (We'll point out the best ones). You'll learn the history of two historic Victorian pubs and get the chance to have a drink in what was quite possibly Jack The Ripper’s local pub. You'll have the chance to purchase food or drinks along the way as we give you the history and background.
Next up, we'll wander London’s famous historic Jewish quarter before ending with an exploration of the famous Brick Lane vintage and food markets. You won't want to miss the chance to dive into this historic markets and pubs that are steeped in the very culture of London life. No other part of London combines the ancient and the modern quite like the East End, and no other part has been home to such a variety of cultures over the years. Be prepared to have a taste of the latest international culinary trends one minute, then turn a corner and feel like you suddenly stepped back 300 years the next.
