• Please indicate your arrival date to Japan as your service date on your booking, and the name of the hotel where you will be staying.

• The JR PASS is valid only for foreign tourists who have a "Temporary Visitor" status. In order to receive or use the JR PASS, the passport must bear this stamp or sticker.

• Japanese nationals who reside in Japan are not eligible to purchase the JR PASS, nor individuals whose passports are stamped with "Trainee", "Entertainer", or "Reentry Permit".

• In order to provide the correct service, after booking, please send an email with a scanned image of your passport which shows your name, nationality and passport number (please follow instructions indicated on your voucher).

• Guests must always travel with their passport in order for the JR Pass to be valid.

• You can reserve your train tickets and seats at the designated Exchange Counters by providing your desired itinerary (dates, routes and times).

• On some trains it is mandatory to pre-book a seat.

• You must reserve a seat with “oversized baggage area” if you are travelling with an oversized baggage (dimensions between 160 cm and 250 cm) on the Shinkansen. Failure to do so, may incur a penalty charge.

• Please note that JR Pass cannot be reissued in the event that it is lost or stolen.

• There must be 1 adult per child aged 5 or under.

• Young children aged between 0 and 5 years old, do not require a JR Pass. They are also not entitled to a seat. Should there be an empty seat they may sit in the empty space, however if the train is busy or the seat reserved, they must move from the seat and sit on an adult’s lap.

• Those visiting Japan during National Holidays may wish to purchase a Japan Rail Pass for young children to ensure that they have a seat in an unreserved or reserved carriage at all times. You are unable to reserve seats for them without a JR Pass or ticket.

• For guests who are not staying in a hotel, the JR Pass Exchange order may not be able to be delivered and this service may not be provided.

Redeem Information

• The JR Pass Exchange order is valid for 3 months after issue.

• Exchange your voucher for your JR Exchange Order at the hotel front desk upon check-in.

• Redeem your Exchange Order for your JR Pass at one of the designated Exchange Counters. Please specify the start date (first day of use) to a member of staff, so your pass can be validated. The JR Pass cannot be issued without the original Exchange Order, and all passengers must attend with their passports.

How does it work?

• The JR Pass is valid only for the person whose name appears on the pass and valid only when it has a JR Pass ticket attached.

• Present your pass to the attendant at the ticket gate, with the period of validity visible. The attendant will then apply a stamp in the space provided for official use.

• While using the JR Pass you must carry your passport at all times and be prepared to present it to a station attendant or train conductor if requested.

• The JR Pass does not ensure seating options. If you wish to use reserved seating, be sure to get seat reservations before boarding (no additional payment required). To book a reserved-seat ticket, simply present your JR Pass at the ticket office (e.g. Midori-no-madoguchi) at a JR station.

• On some trains, it is mandatory in some trains to pre-book a seat as some trains do not have non-reserved seating.

• Once the pass is in use, the validity period cannot be extended, nor will any refunds be issued, should trains and other qualifying transportation services are suspended or delayed for any reason, including natural disasters.
