Harlem Gospel Tour Sunday

General information

Destination
New York, United States

Program details

Journey into the past, and see the city that became an African-American Mecca for writers and artists at the turn of the century. Hear about Harlem's troubled past during the 1960s and 1970s, and view its present day community beam with pride as it revels in Harlem's renaissance.

See famous sights and landmarks such as Columbia University, City College and the Morningside Heights, where the Battle of Harlem Heights was fought in 1776. The tour is ingrained with local culture and history, and the optional brunch reflects this; an African American cuisine that includes spicy ribs, fried fish and chicken, freshly baked corn bread, collard greens, black eye peas, okra, and macaroni and cheese.

The tour also includes the Morris Jumel Mansion, Sylvan Terrace and Strivers Row, the houses that are collectively recognised as a gem of New York City architecture. Learn the prestigious histories of the Cotton Club, the Apollo Theater, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and the famous 125th street, also recognised as Martin Luther Kinr Jr Street. Finally, your guide will take you to join a local congregation for the Sunday worship service where you can experience the soul-stirring power of gospel music!

The tour is available in English French, German, Spanish or Italian and is led by a knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide.

Start or opening time: Tour in English departure time at 9.30am and tours in French, German, Italian, and Spanish departure time at 9am.
