Program details

Worship at Catalonia’s holiest mountain and see the legendary Black Virgin of Montserrat. This full-day guided tour is more than a religious experience – it’s an adventure that is capped off with a visit to a picturesque seaside town. You will enjoy stunning views, see staggering rock formations and even hear one of the most angelic choirs known to God.

Montserrat has been a place of pilgrimage ever since some shepherd boys saw a light coming out of a cave in the year 880. When they explored its source, they found a statue of Our Lady. It proved too heavy to move, so the local bishop declared that the Virgin wanted to stay there. Since then, the statue has been venerated and it is believed to have turned black thanks to centuries of smoke from candles. Over the years, the complex expanded and is now the largest Benedictine monastery in Spain – all surrounded by staggering rock formations.

Enjoy a guided panoramic tour of the exterior of the monastery; wander the courtyards and cloisters before entering the basilica to pay homage to Our Lady. The basilica itself is a sight to behold and is famed for the angelic voices of the young boys’ choir (which has July off), one of the oldest music schools of its kind in Europe. It is truly soul-stirring stuff.

Lastly we visit Roc Sant Gaieta, a Spanish seaside village where the streets and patios harmoniously blend all styles and typical Iberian architecture: Gothic, Romanesque and Mediterranean houses. Breathe in the fresh sea air and admire the picture postcard views in your free time before we return to Salou.
