Harlem Gospel Tour Wednesday

General information

Destination
New York, United States

Program details

This tour will take you past some of Harlem's most famous landmarks, such as the Apollo Theater, where Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald began their ascent to superstardom. As one of the earliest venues to welcome black patrons, the Apollo’s old show billings read like a roll call of the greatest in African-American talent. We’ll call by the world-renowned Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, the world’s leading information resource for people of African descent. Then stroll by the historic Abyssinian Baptist Church, a long-standing community space for political, cultural and religious activities in the area. Explore the affluent side of Harlem at Striver's Row and Sugar Hill. Many strived for the ‘sweet life’ to be had in these spacious homes, which housed some of the most prominent black Harlemites.

Next, lose yourself in the mesmerising a capella voices of the ARC Gospel Choir. ARC stands for Addicts Rehabilitation Center, the oldest drug-free treatment program centre in New York State and a beacon of hope for the community. The choir will sing songs of praise and share their experiences in a passionate and moving expression of hope. If you wish, you can then round off your experience and join us for an authentic soul food lunch.
