Program details

Waikiki’s storied history includes tales of island royalty, decadent feasts and inspiring settings. Every Monday and Thursday evening, The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort, pays homage to Helumoa, the legendary playground of Hawaiian royalty where the resort now stands, with a modern interpretation of the traditional Hawaiian feast called ‘Aha 'Aina, A Royal Celebration.

This show is Waikiki’s only oceanfront diner and show. It’s a commemoration of Hawaiian culture and transforms the traditional Hawaiian Luau experience in a style that only the Royal Hawaiian can! While most luaus offer only buffet lines and standard luau food, ‘Aha ‘Aina provides a fine dining experience with an after-dinner show produced by the Hawaiian entertainment company, Tahiti Productions.

Held every Monday and Thursday evening on the Royal Hawaiian’s Ocean Lawn, with the breath-taking backdrop of Waikiki Beach and picturesque Diamond Head, the ‘Aha ‘Aina is composed of three spectacular acts. As guests enter the grounds, the evening begins with traditional Hawaiian activities, including kappa-making, poi-pounding and na lawai’a. This night continues with the sound of a conch calling guests to feast as a storyteller shares the significance of lei giving, the ocean and taro whilst gets dine on fantastic pupu (hors d’oeuvres).

After dinner, the Helumoa story unfolds through a dramatic performance which includes hula and song, commemorating the islanders’ rich history and culture. This experience is definitely worth taking part in for those who want to know more about the traditions of Hawaii, as well as experience an authentic Luau for themselves!
