It’s hard to imagine the horrors which occurred on this beautiful island at Pearl Harbor on the 7th December 1941, but with this enlightening tour, you will learn about the series of events that unfolded on that tragic day.Start by boarding the USS Arizona Memorial, the floating memorial accessible only by boat moored above the sunken battleship. Look down through the crystal-clear tropical waters at the shipwreck below, a National Historic Landmark that commemorates the American entrance into World War II over 60 years ago. View the film of the attack, and browse through the historic artefacts on display before returning across Pearl Harbor on the Navy launch.
Then it's on to the Punchbowl National Cemetery. Located in the crater of an extinct volcano, this permanent burial site for the many thousands of World War II servicemen killed in the Pacific, and a destination for millions of visitors every year. Construction began in 1948 and the cemetery was complete in 1949. Wander among the flat marble grave markers, set flush with the grass and decorated with leis, typical Hawaiian garlands.
Then head for downtown Honolulu to discover other aspects of Hawaii's history, from ancient Polynesian ocean culture to the huge whaling industry, to the coming of the luxury ocean liners of the 1920s and 1930s, among the many beautiful old buildings of the capital.
