Stockholm, Sweden |
Stockholm stands on 14 islands, situated at the meeting point of freshwater Lake Mälaren and the Baltic Sea. It’s been inhabited since the time of the Vikings, but really came into its own in the 17th century when it became the capital of the then mighty Swedish Empire. Today, it’s a grand, beautiful and cosmopolitan city, which we’ll show you on our hop-on hop-off bus and boat tours.
By combing bus and boat tours, you’ll get to see more of the city and understand just what makes it so unique. Our boat tour starts by the Royal Palace. It’s on the bus route too, so maybe hop off there ready to hop on the boat, making sure you explore the many incredible sights there such as the Royal Apartments and the Tre Kronor Museum.
There aren’t many better feelings than being on a boat on the water, but still make sure you hop off at Djurgården to see the wonderful Vasa Museum, home to a salvaged 17th-century Swedish warship. Learn the story of this impressive maritime craft, which comes straight from Sweden’s golden age.
Whether you’re on the bus or boat make sure you hop off at Gröna Lund amusement park. It’s a great place to spend a few hours with the kids. Check out the Abba Museum while you’re there. You can even buy tickets on the bus.
The boat’s last stop is in Gamla Stan, the island that is the city’s historic centre. It’s a magical place. There are museums and important buildings to visit, but just walking its medieval streets is a pleasure. Maybe, find somewhere to stop for a coffee, before hopping back on the bus or boat and continuing to explore.
