Alpujarras Granadinas

General information

Destination
Granada, Spain

Program details

The area has a fascinating historical legacy and is well-known throughout Spain for the qualities of its medicinal waters. The Alpujurra itself is a long valley running westwards between the southern foothills of the Sierra Nevada, the Mountains of Lujar, Gador and Contraviesa and the Mediterranean coast to the south.

After being picked up from your hotel we ride on to Orgiva, capital of the region.

We continue our tour passing through a succession of dazzling whitewashed villages, set in an emerald landscape. We pass Caratuñas, Pampaneira, Pitres, Portugos as we climb to Trevelez, which at 1486m is the highest village in Spain and is renowned for its exquisite air-cured Iberian hams.

Then it’s on to Bubion and Capileira, dizzyingly hanging over the impressive gorge of the Poqueira River.

We stop here for a traditional Alpujarran lunch and you have time to explore this typical Moorish-style village with narrow, winding streets, flat roofs and characteristic chimney pots before we return to Granada.
