Located on the banks of the Perfume River, approximately 3km from Hue, you will find the city's oldest temple, the Thien Mu Pagoda. Dating back to the 17th century, this seven-tier stupa is situated in peaceful gardens, this Mahayana Buddhist temple is one of Hue's most iconic landmarks, and regarded as the symbol of Hue. What's more, the best way to get to Thien Mu Pagoda is by taking a leisurely cruise along the Perfume River. As you glide along the river, you will take in the famous city sites from a new perspective.



Continue on to the Imperial City, which housed the palaces, pavilions, civil and religious ceremonies and official audiences with the civil mandarins. The Royal Citadel is composed of three walled enclosures, each within the other; a city within a city and originally modelled the Royal Citadel on the Forbidden City in Beijing by Emperor Gia Long.



Finish the tour as you discover the ruins of the Forbidden Purple City, located within the Imperial City and the former royal palace used only by the imperial family. During the Vietnam War, this part of the Imperial City suffered the most extensive damage today, you can see what little remains of the original structures.
