Program details
Our tour starts with a drive to the Wat Ket area where we start our walk. We begin at the Christian Church, built in 1968. The church has a small historical room with very interesting pictures.
From here we will follow Charoenrat Road to Wat Ket. On our way we pass some beautiful old shop houses. At Wat Ket we visit the fascinating Temple and museum. The temple is believed to be between 500 to 600years old and was specially dedicated to those born in the year of the dog.
From here we proceed to one of the Sikh Gurdwaras in Chiang Mai. Gurdwara is a well-known Sikh place of worship.
We then cross the Ping River via Nakorn Ping Bridge and enter Warorot Market, also known as Kad Luang. This fantastic market never ceases to amaze. It is a feast for the eye….and for the stomach. Here we will visit the Chinese shrine Ong Thao Kong. The area around Kad Luang is the Chinatown of Chiang Mai.
We continue our walk to the Chinese Muslim area Ban Haw. Here we will visit the Ban Haw Mosque and enjoy a bowl of traditional Khao Soi in one of our favorite restaurant. We continue through Charoenprathet Road and stop at two remarkable teak wooden buildings, each with its own story. We continue towards the iron bridge. Before crossing the river again we admire a 145-year old teak wooden Lanna style house. Finally, we cross the bridge and head for the former Presbyterian Church, built in 1868 where the tour comes to an end.
