Program details
Explore Athens like a local during this
early morning tour with stops at the Acropolis and Parthenon.
Avoid the crowds by starting early and wander the famous Varvakios Market
, where locals pick up their daily goods. End the morning at a traditional pastry shop on Syntagma Square, where you can enjoy a delicious cheese or spinach pie and a coffee.
Rise and shine early in order to meet a friendly local guide. The city streets will be
quiet in the morning, making it the perfect time to explore the city. Travel in a comfortable, air-conditioned minivan to various important sites, popular with tourists and locals alike.
The first stop is the historic
Varvakios Market. First constructed in the late 19th century, this municipal market has been continuously open for over 125 years since taking the place of its predecessor following a deadly fire in 1884.
Take in all the
sights, smells and sounds while strolling through its narrow aisles, observing the piles of produce, watching the busy meat and fish vendors and people-watching the throngs of shoppers picking up their daily supplies.
Next it’s on to
Athens' sightseeing spot where you can have a
perfect view of Acropolis site (tickets not included): Philoppapou Hill or Areios Pagos. Both sites should be relatively crowd-free this early and are perfect for exploring. Get a brief overview of the sites and then spend some time wandering around.
Finally, head to the
Hatzis pastry shop (or similar) in Syntagma Square for a
breakfast of traditional cheese or spinach pie and Greek coffee or espresso.
Return back to your hotel with your guide or continue exploring from here.
