Program details
Begin your tour around 8:30 am and explore the Douro Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where wine has been produced by traditional landowners for about two thousand years, being the oldest demarcated region in the world where excellent wines, including Port Wine.
We will pick you up at your hotel (in Porto or in Vila Nova de Gaia) and travel through the Douro Valley to Galafura, a small village in the heart of the Douro Valley. Our first stop is in Amarante. This city becomes very important in history after the arrival of S. Gonçalo (1187-1259) - one of the most renowned saints in Christian history, who settled here after his pilgrimage through Rome and Jerusalem, making this city an important stop religious in Portugal. You can visit the convent and the church, but also the beautiful bridge and the historic center.
The trip continues towards Galafura, a small village near Peso da Régua. On the way stop to see the Miradouro de São Leonardo de Galafura near Covelinhas, parish of Galafura. From the top of its 640 meters high has a privileged view over the river Douro and the surrounding landscape. This is one of the highlights of your day! Be sure to bring your camera and do not miss anything! You will also find here a geodesic landmark, as this is the highest place in the region.
After all the contemplation, it's time for a fantastic lunch (NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE) in a family-owned restaurant where food is homemade and drinks during lunch are also included.
The tour continues to Pinhão, one of the most beautiful villages in the region. Stop for a one-hour relaxing cruise (NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE). The views over the vineyards offered are just marvelous! Stop to enjoy!
End your day with a fantastic visit to a local wine cellar (we usually visit a renowned brand), where you will also have the opportunity to taste wines and learn a lot about how precious Port Wine is grown. From May we will include a wine tasting at Quinta do Portal. The tour ends with delivery to the hotel.
