Program details

Spain and Morocco may just be a few kilometers apart by sea but they are worlds away culturally. This fascinating day trip to the historic city of Tangier will give you an intriguing insight into North African life while enjoying a guided tour and free time as well as lunch. Sail from Tarifa to Tangier, which is known as the ‘White City’. It has historic links to Spain – as recently as 1956 it was part of a Spanish protectorate – and was even an English colony for 23 years in the 17th century. Yet despite the European connections, it is a quintessentially Moroccan city.

We’ll head to the Grotto of Hercules, a mythical cave where, according to legend, Hercules rested after successfully completing his 12 tasks. The grotto faces onto the Atlantic and the entrance floods during high tide. Locals believe that it was built by an ancient civilization. You can take some photos or avail of the option to ride a camel.

Lunch will be a traditional Moroccan restaurant.

We will tour the city centre, with guided walks of the Medina, Kasbah and more. You will also have some free time for shopping or further sightseeing at your own leisure.

If you prefer to stay in Tangier for two days, your first day will be as per the above itinerary, except that at the end of the tour you are transferred to the Hotel Intercontinental 4* (half-board included: dinner and breakfast). You have the 2nd day to spend as you wish until you are picked up for transfer to back to the port.

Meeting/pick-up point: Please meet at the Travelsur officer in Tarifa harbour 30 minutes before the fast ferry sailing at 11am. The return sailings at 6pm. You will receive information and stickers so that you can be identified by reps on arrival at Tangier. You will need to provide your full name and passport number when making the reservation.
