Program details
This spectacular tour of Barcelona combines two of its
most popular cultural and recreational areas: the waterfront and port, now a completely renovated with all sorts of leisure facilities in an incomparable setting and Montjuic hill, with spectacular views over the city and harbour. We will also visit the Olympic Ring of Sports Stadiums, built for the 1992 Olympics and the charming Poble Espanyol where you will have time for lunch.
Barcelona's waterfront area was extensively renovated before the 1992 Olympics opening the city up to the sea and is a living example of how old and new can be successfully combined. We'll see how the old port with its warehouses and mediaeval shipyards has been preserved and integrated into a
modern leisure complex with marina, Aquarium, the World Trade Centre, restaurants and cinemas. See how the city centre extends from the Ramblas into the modern harbour, past the famous statue of Christopher Columbus.
Montjuic is a 184m high hill located to the southwest of the city centre with an important role in the history of the city. We'll stop at the Mirador de l'Alcalde, a lookout with
spectacular views out over the harbour and the whole city. Then we'll explore the Olympic Ring, the central sports facilities of the 92 Olympic Games. The complex includes the Olympic Stadium itself, the Sant Jordi Sports Pavilion and the Calatrava Communications Tower.
Our final stop is a visit to the Poble Espanyol. You'll find
replicas of streets, squares, monuments and buildings from all around Spain. This area is also an open air museum and you can watch the artists and craftsmen at work, synthesizing traditional crafts with modern design. You will also have free time for lunch, there are many bars and restaurants to choose from.
