Program details

This unique one-day tour combines a guided visit to the most important sites of ancient Rome, with the Skip the Line access to the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill, with a relaxing wine tour in the afternoon led by an expert sommelier.

During the morning, our knowledgeable English-speaking guide will tell you about the history of the Colosseum, home to gladiators, mock sea-battles, and executions. We will spend over an hour inside the amphitheater and then proceed to the Roman Forum, where you will walk along the “Via Sacra” or “Sacred Way” – the main avenue through the ancient city, which once sparkled with festivals and triumphal processions as Roman armies returned from war.

Rising above the Colosseum and Roman Forum, you will see Palatine Hill, the most famous of the Seven Hills of Rome. Romulus and Remus were said to have been found on the Palatine by the she-wolf who nursed and raised them.

After the morning tour, you will have a break to enjoy lunch, do some souvenir shopping, or simply explore the local area.

After your break, we will whisk you away from central Rome via an air-conditioned coach to the tranquil hills of the Castelli Romani, where centuries-old vineyards and olive groves surround us on all sides. Your guide will share interesting facts and stories about the area. This wine region is called Frascati and the region’s most celebrated wine producer, the Pallavicini family, will open their ancient vineyards and wine cellars for our private groups!

Here, you will experience over 200 acres of breathtakingly beautiful vineyards, olive trees, and ancient ruins that are a testament to the rich history of the property.

Your guide will take you on a walk throughout the estate where you will learn about all phases of the Pallavicini wine production and how it evolved from antiquity until today. You will step inside stunning 3rd century caverns lined with Acacia and French Oak barrels where wines are stored to age. You will be surprised to learn that this incredible underground cellar was built into the ruins of an Ancient Roman aqueduct that once passed through this land.

By covering Colosseum and Roman Forum in the morning and enjoying a pleasant afternoon, learning about the wines of the Castelli Romani area, this Combo is perfect for those who want to visit the Roman countryside and learn about local wines without giving up a visit to the most important monuments of the Eternal City.
