Program details
Walk in Mozart’s steps on this tour that takes you the places the famous composer stayed, played and frequented in Prague’s Old Town and Lesser Town. Learn about why Mozart was so warmly welcomed by the people of Prague and why they loved him, and his music, so much - even to this day.
The opening act of our tour begins in the Old Town where the history of drama and music in Bohemia, Czech and Moravia comes to life. On foot we pass by three symbolic buildings in the life of Mozart in Prague: Golden Angel House, Three Golden Lions House and the Estates Theatre. You’ll see where Mozart stayed during his time here, and where he played on the opening night of the beloved Don Giovanni on October 29th 1791 - now one of the most performed operas worldwide.
For the second act we travel by tram to the Lesser Town, where we visit the exhibition of music at the Czech Museum of Music. Next, the tour takes you on the funicular up to the Strahov Monastery at Hradeany. See where Mozart improvised on the organ in the church of the Ascension of the Virgin, and stop by the houses and palaces where he held concerts and lived.
For the final and closing act we take you to a fine example of Baroque architecture: St Nicholas Church, where on in 1791 a requiem was held as a tribute to Mozart. We finish at a prominent and emblematic landmark; a fitting end to a tour about a significant and prominent composer, dear to this nation’s heart.
