Meet your eerie guide at gruesome Mercat Cross, where in days gone by criminals were tortured, beheaded and burnt at the stake while the bloodthirsty crowd jeered and cheered. Wend your way through the tiny cobblestone streets of the old town and hear the tales of the restless spirits who haunt the many old buildings, seeking absolution or revenge. Finally, descend into the ancient vaults beneath the South Bridge, a dark hidden catacomb of haunted chambers echoing to long-forgotten footsteps. For those who have chosen the basic Ghosts & Ghouls Edinburgh tour, you are now free to return to the sunlit realm of the living. A close escape…
But for the truly brave, or the truly foolish, the full Ghosts & Ghouls tour dares you to continue. Gather around in Megget’s Cellar, lit only by the flickering of candlelight among the spider webs. Sup a wee dram to steady your nerves as your strange guide spins yarns that will make your blood run cold and your hair turn white. Of course, they’re just stories. Everybody knows that ghosts aren’t real. Or are they?
