You’ll visit the shadowy closes where the ghosts still cling to the ancient sites and explore the gruesome past in the safety of daylight. However, the Blair Street Underground Vaults always lie in shadow. Descend into the famously haunted Blair Street Underground Vaults where the poor souls of Edinburgh's past still haunt her present.
This tour will cater to people who like to explore the history of these famous underground vaults. If you like to see and touch artefacts from 19th Century, hear how real people lived and worked in the vaults, in the company of a Mercat historian, then this is your tour. Blair Street Underground Vaults are the deepest, largest and most extensive vaults in the city of Edinburgh. Why were these Vaults built? When? By whom they were built? Who used them? How did they work? The guide will narrate the past of the Vaults, evoke their stories and reply to your questions during this travel back to our past. For health & safety reasons we are unable to allow any children under the age of five on our underground tours.
Meeting/ pick-up point: Mercat Cross, the large eight-sided monument on the High Street, just downhill from St Giles Cathedral.
