Program details
The Bosphorus, the narrow straits separating Europe from Asia, is Istanbul’s main artery and lifeline of the city to the rest of the world. On this guided afternoon tour you will learn all about the role of this waterway in this magical city's rich history, visiting the exotic spice market before boarding a sightseeing boat for an exhilarating cruise on the Bosphorus. A knowledgeable local guide will provide plenty of fascinating historical and cultural insight as you pass some of the main landmarks of this beautiful city.
After being picked up from your hotel we'll pay a visit to the 17th century Egyptian Bazaar. Located in the neighbourhood of Eminonu, it is the second largest covered shopping complex after the Grand Bazaar. The bazaar was (and still is) the centre for the spice trade in Istanbul and the air is filled with the enticing aromas of cinnamon, caraway, saffron, mint, thyme and every other conceivable herb and spice.
Now it's time to a board a river cruiser for a sightseeing cruise along the Bosphorus. You’ll glide past some of Istanbul’s more impressive sights, including the magnificent Dolmabahçe Palace, the 15th-century Rumeli Hisari Fortress built by Mehmet the Conqueror and Beylerbeyi Palace, the summer palace of the Ottoman sultans. You’ll also get to see both the European and Asian shores, passing mosques, fortresses, palaces and the wooden villas and mansions of the rich and powerful. Then after returning to land you’ll rejoin the coach for the journey back to your hotel.
