Program details

Stroll through the ages with this intriguing walking tour of Athens and discover its wealth of attractions from classical times through today. Among the many sights you’ll see are the famous changing of the guard by the Evzones, the National Gardens, the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the Acropolis. This tour has it all: history, culture, scenery and a sense of occasion.

Your Athenian odyssey begins at the Hellenic Parliament in Syntagma Square, where you will witness the pomp and circumstance of the changing of the guard by the Evzones at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Watch as the guards perform their highly stylised moves and then stand motionless for 15 minutes, without flinching even once. Enjoy a pleasant walk through the serene beauty of the National Gardens and on to the neo-classical Zappeion Hall as well as the ruins of the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the Arch of Hadrian.

Explore the busy Plaka area on the way to the Acropolis to visit the Propylaia, the Temple of Nike, and the Parthenon, timeless reminders of the power and glory of ancient Athens and the Golden Age of Pericles. See also the Athenian Agora, the Observatories, the Hills of Democracy, Mars and Philoppapos. Admire the stunning Odeon of Herodes Atticus and the Theatre of Dionysus. After the tour, you have the option of visiting the new Acropolis Museum, which houses more than 4,000 artefacts from the fifth century BC to the fifth century AD.
