Program details
Explore the beautiful and historic island of Aegina on this sailing daytrip from Athens. Lying just 27 km south of the capital, Aegina offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. However, just as much culture and history are packed into this island, once a great rival to Athens. Visit temples, archaeological digs and paradisiacal beaches with crystal blue waters on this unforgettable voyage.
Make the idyllic two hour journey and watch as the Acropolis drifts into the distance and Aegina approaches. Disembark in the marina and make the short walk to the spectacular Temple of Aphaia, perched on a peak on the eastern coast of the island. Your expert local guide will lead you through this monument to the goddess Aphaia, worshipped almost exclusively in Aegina and associated with fertility and agriculture. Dating back to 500 BC, the temple is believed to have been the prototype for the construction of the Parthenon in Athens and the temple of Poseidon in Sunion. Interestingly these three temples lie at equal distances from each other, forming a mysterious perfect triangle that is visible on a clear day. Visit the archaeological dig at the site, first excavated in the 19th century and examine the Late Bronze Age figurines that were unearthed here.
Return to the boat and sail south to the spectacular bay of Kipos. A delicious lunch full of fresh local specialities will be served onboard before the boat drops anchor and you have the opportunity to dive into the pristine water and snorkel amongst the abundant marine life before returning to Athens after a memorable trip.
