Program details

As the cradle of civilization and the home of philosophy and democracy, Athens is a truly historic city to explore. Discover Athens with a half-day tour that combines many of the city’s principal modern and classical sights. This tour includes an overview of the modern city and the striking contrasts with the remains of the past.

Begin by exploring the more modern parts of the city. Drive by the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in front of the Parliament House on Syntagma Square and the Panathinaikos Stadium, site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. Then view the Presidential Palace (formerly the Royal Palace) and many government buildings and elegant homes. We will cruise along the picturesque Panepistimiou Avenue and view the relatively modern Catholic Cathedral, the Academy, University and National Library ending at the busy traffic hub that is Omonia Square.

In contrast, the second part of the tour will see you at the Roman Temple of Olympian Zeus dedicated to the King of the Olympian Gods and the largest temple of the ancient world. Of course we finish our visit with the crowning glory of Athens, the Acropolis. The world-renowned Acropolis is home to many monuments on top of its mountain perch. Walk within the Temple of Parthenon, dedicated to the guardian goddess of the city, Athena. Surrounding the temple are the ruins of the temple of the goddess Nike, the Erectheas Tomb with its Porch of Maidens, and the Propylaia, the monumental gateway to the city. Day 2: This session includes a 10-minute unique ‘rain shower’ with regenerating thermal water, and a 20-minute Dead Sea mud treatment. Loutraki’s world famous thermal water will relieve any muscular strains or pain caused by arthritis while offering your skin deep hydration.
