Program details

Ascend one of the world’s greatest monuments of classical antiquity with this half-day tour of the incredible Acropolis. What trip to the capital would be complete without getting up close to the jewel in Athens’ crown, and the triumphs of architecture it displays? More than an archaeological site, the Acropolis is an eternal symbol of Greek identity just waiting to be discovered.

Meet your friendly guide at Syntagma Square, the centre of modern Athens, in the shadow of the Parliament building. Here you’ll enjoy a short tour within Syntagma Metro station, where there are exhibits of some of the incredible pottery and other finds discovered while constructing the station. Then hop on the train for a five-minute ride to the Acropolis metro station, where your guide will show you more sculptures and pottery. Wander up the most beautiful pedestrian street in Athens, the marble-paved Dionyssou Areopageitou among horse-drawn traps and traditional buskers.

Ascend the Acropolis Hill through the shady gardens of cypress and olive trees to view the architectural masterpieces of the Golden Age. Entering through the monumental Propylaea, tour the Temple of Athena Nike. See the Erechtheion where six ageless marble maidens support the porch. Marvel at the sublime Parthenon, one of the world’s greatest expressions of architectural harmony and grace, and gaze out at the incomparable view. Be transported to another world with this relaxed tour of the birthplace of western culture.
